Taxes and Economic Development
-
No one likes paying taxes, but as Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “taxes are the price we pay for civilization.” We have a hefty tax burden as South Dakotans, and there is no need to add to it. We must all work together to make sure we are spending tax dollars wisely, and encourage the development of new industries and projects, such as cellulosic ethanol, wind power, and the Sanford Lab in Lead, to stimulate the economy and provide much needed revenue
- The DUSEL in Lead will become a tremendous boon the economy of Lawrence County. We need to support the Lab in all possible ways. We should also use the momentum generated by the Lab to propel the development of wind power, cellulosic ethanol, and other industries in South Dakota. We need economic development and new, good paying jobs to provide additional revenues and hopefully reduce the burden of individual tax payers. Only by bringing more players to the table, can we reduce each person’s slice of the tax pie.
