Kevin O'Dea
District 31 House of Representative
Open Government
Government exists to serve the people. However in South Dakota it is often difficult to know exactly what is going on in Pierre, due to the closed and secretive nature of our State Government. In fact, South Dakota is the only state that presumes a taxpayer does not have the right to obtain information from State Government and must prove that they do. Other states presume its citizens have the right to knowledge of state government budgets, revenues and expenditures, unless proven otherwise. Taxpayers have a right to know where their money is being spent and what their government is up to. If elected, I will work to make sure that all information is readily available to interested South Dakotans while protecting the privacy of its citizens.
- Government exists to serve the people.
- The business of government should be open and transparent to the citizens of South Dakota.
